In plain English: BUY or S&P? is a single-page calculator. We collect almost nothing. Anything we do collect is anonymized, never sold, and covered below.

1. What we collect

The calculator runs entirely in your browser. The purchase name, price, category, and horizon you enter never leave your device unless you explicitly share a reckoning (at which point the values travel in the URL you copy and share).

We collect the following anonymized information via Google Analytics 4:

  • Approximate location (country / region, derived from IP — IP is anonymized before storage)
  • Device type, browser, operating system
  • Pages viewed and session duration
  • Events you trigger: running a reckoning, clicking a preset, sharing or copying the result

We do not collect names, email addresses, or any direct personal identifiers from this site.

2. How we use it

Anonymized analytics help us understand which features are used, identify bugs, and make editorial decisions (which presets resonate, which time horizons people explore). That's the extent of it.

We don't build user profiles, don't do retargeting, and don't sell data to anyone.

3. Third parties

  • Google Analytics (Google LLC) — anonymized visitor analytics. We've disabled Google Signals and enabled IP anonymization. See Google's Privacy Policy.
  • Google Fonts (Google LLC) — typography delivery. Fonts are fetched from Google's CDN, which may log request metadata.
  • Netlify — site hosting and CDN. Netlify processes server-log metadata (IP, user agent) for infrastructure purposes. See Netlify's Privacy Policy.
  • X (Twitter) — clicking "Share on X" redirects you to X.com with pre-filled text. Their tracking applies from that point.

4. Cookies & tracking

Google Analytics sets a small number of first-party cookies (e.g. _ga) to distinguish visitors and track session length. They expire after up to two years.

We don't use advertising cookies, don't share data with ad networks, and have explicitly disabled ad-personalization features in our GA configuration.

You can block analytics entirely via browser extensions like uBlock Origin or Privacy Badger, and nothing on the site will break.

5. Data retention

Google Analytics data is retained for up to 14 months, after which it is automatically deleted. We do not maintain any separate database of visitor information.

6. Your rights

Depending on where you live (GDPR for the EU/UK, CCPA for California, etc.), you may have rights to access, correct, or delete the information held about you. Because we don't collect personal identifiers, most such requests resolve to "we have nothing tied to you specifically" — but if you have a concern, email us and we'll do our best.

To opt out of Google Analytics across all sites, install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

7. Children's privacy

BUY or S&P? is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect any information from them. If you believe a child has provided information to us through this site, please contact us and we'll act promptly to remove it.

8. International users

This site is hosted in the United States by Netlify. By using it, you consent to your information being transferred to and processed in the United States. If this is a problem in your jurisdiction, please discontinue use.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy occasionally. The effective date at the top will change, and material changes will be noted prominently on the site for a reasonable period.
